Disney+ Eye’s North Wales Filming Locations
The Disney+ series production set in the world of the Lucasfilm’s fantasy film Willow, is reported to be eyeing up North Wales as it’s primary filming location. The original was shot in Snowdonia National Park. Now we’ve tried to keep North Wales a bit of secret since we opened for business here in 2016, but it looks like the word is out “North Wales is officially an epic location for the film industry, both virtually and physically.”
The new Willow series is to be helmed by Jon Chu, best known as the director of 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians. As a company that’s exporting Welsh VP tech states side, (opening our first LA Store), it’s a boost to have Hollywood eyeing up our backyard. But it’s so true, North Wales offers a unique production location. Landscapes are a plenty in a very short distance, with a diverse range in a of locations very close to each other. In one day our location capture teams can scan a vast number of location for use in VR and virtual production studios. From rocky mountains and slate mines to forests, lakes, white water rivers and sunset coastlines, all in a an hours drive from each other.
It’s by far not the first time Hollywood has come to North Wales with The Watchman, Wonderwoman 1984 and Tomb Raider all having come here to shoot. This is a testament to North Wales being a fantastic filming location. As our team scans and export digital location assets from North Wales, to VFX vendors, virtual sets and studios around the world, we are also very happy to welcome and service any Hollywood productions that are coming to shoot in North Wales. We agree, it really is a stunning place.
